Our investment philosophy

We rely on active fund management and build up portfolios from the bottom up, which means we select companies based on their individual opportunities. This gives us the necessary competitive advantage to be able to achieve above-average returns for our customers. As markets are typically not efficient, we base our investment ideas and beliefs on our own research:

  • With a global research team of approximately 12 investment professionals worldwide, we have one of the most effective teams in the industry.
  • Our analysts research directly on site: they visit production sites and exchange ideas with customers, competitors, suppliers and independent experts.
  • In addition, all fund managers and analysts take part in around 100 company meetings every year.
  • Throughout the year, we commission over 80 bespoke surveys and reports to help us understand the potential of companies‘ product and service innovations.
  • Our analysts work together across all asset classes, meaning fundamental analysis is conducted from both a stock and bond perspective.
  • With this 360-degree view, we gain insights that provide information about the strength and growth prospects of the individual companies – so our fund managers have information on 90% of our fund holdings that no one else has.
  • We are convinced that a responsible investment process with the systematic consideration of environmental, social and governance criteria (ESG) can make a significant contribution to achieving solid long-term results for our clients or even increasing them.
  • Thanks to an industry-leading technology platform, our analysts have an overview of all analyzes and reports at all times, even when on the go. In addition, each fund manager has unrestricted access to instruments for risk control, forecasting and individual model calculations and can initiate the purchase or sale of individual securities at any time from anywhere in the world.
  • Our team, which analyzes third-party investment products, covers around 38 external investment strategies from which we can compile individual client portfolios

This is how we identify growth opportunities or revenue streams that have not yet been priced in by the market in order to achieve sustainable added value for our customers.

How we run our business

Most of our fund managers go through our demanding training program at the „Portfolio Academy“. New fund managers initially manage so-called pilot funds in order to be able to test their ideas with company capital first. As a matter of principle, we only offer our customers tried and tested funds.

We take care of our clients‘ assets and play a key role in ensuring that the companies in which we invest are run more responsibly. Ultimately, the companies themselves benefit from this.

The remuneration of our fund managers is based on their long-term performance. This is how we align the interests and investment horizons of our clients and those of our fund managers. The same applies to the members of management who are shareholders of the company while working for Julius.
